System Requirements: COMSOL Server™ Version 6.4 Update 3

Version:
  • 6.4.0.429

Hardware Requirements

The hardware requirements for COMSOL Server™ include:

  • A network card and internet connection for installation
  • At least 4 GB memory, but 4 GB or more per processor core
  • 2–6 GB of disk space, depending on your licensed products and installation options
  • The following processors:
    • An Intel®or AMD®64-bit processor based on the Intel®64 or AMD64 architecture with the SSE4 instruction set:
      • Intel®processors released in 2009 or later and AMD®processors released in 2012 or later satisfy this requirement.
    • Apple silicon processors (M1 and later) are supported with macOS.
    • ARM64 processors are supported with Linux®.

Adobe Acrobat®Reader is required to view and print the COMSOL documentation in PDF format.

For guidance on choosing RAM and processors, please seethis Knowledge Base entry.

COMSOL Server™ License (CSL)

The COMSOL Server™ license type is a networked license type and is supported on a heterogeneous network of computers running any of the Windows®or Linux®operating systems or macOS. Both the license manager and the COMSOL Server™ software can run on a single computer running either Windows®, Linux®, or macOS.

Academic Server License (ASL)

System requirements for the academic server license type are similar to that of the COMSOL Server™ license type.

Operating System Requirements

In addition to the operating system requirements listed below, see theInterfacing Product Requirementsfor specific requirements for the CAD Import Module, the Design Module, and LiveLink™ products.

FlexNet®License Manager

The system requirements for the license manager are the same as for COMSOL Server™. FlexNet®version 11.19.8 is used on all platforms. COMSOL®6.4 is not generally compatible with FlexNet®license manager versions from earlier COMSOL®releases. Thus, when upgrading to COMSOL®6.4, you need to upgrade the license manager as well. The version oflmgrdmust be the same as or higher than the FlexNet®version used by the COMSOL®software.

GPU Computing System Requirements

  • At least one NVIDIA®GPU with a compute capability of 6.0 or higher is required.
  • Minimum NVIDIA driver version 576.57 on Windows®and 575.57.08 on Linux®

Graphics System Requirements

COMSOL Server™ does not require graphics rendering. To use the COMSOL Server™ web interface, log in using the COMSOL Client for Windows®or a recommended web browser, seeRunning COMSOL Applications. COMSOL Server™ can also be used in batch mode, which does not require graphics rendering.

Parallel System Requirements

Windows® macOS Linux®
Shared-Memory Parallelism All supported versions of Windows® All supported versions of macOS All supported Linux®distributions
Distributed-Memory Parallelism
  • Windows Server®20251
  • Windows Server®20221
  • Windows Server®20191
  • Windows Server®20161
All supported versions of macOS on Apple silicon

When using the Intel®MPI Library (default for Intel®64 and AMD64):

  • Red Hat®Enterprise Linux®8 and 9
  • Rocky Linux™ 9
  • Amazon Linux 2023

When using MPICH2 (default for ARM64):

  • All supported Linux®distributions
  • Thelibatomicpackage should be installed on all cluster nodes

All computers in the cluster must use the same Linux®version and should have similar hardware. It is recommended that Open Fabric Interface (OFI) 1.5.0 or higher is installed. If you are using RDMA-capable network fabrics, a DAPL 1.2 or later version-compliant driver or library is required. The software is usually provided with your hardware.

1Microsoft®HPC Pack for the respective Windows Server®version is required.

2Version 7 requires using Intel MPI 2021.6.

Java Environment

The COMSOL®software is shipped with OpenJDK™ 21.0.7+6. You can choose an alternative Java 21 version 21.0.7+6 or later during installation.

Note: This information is provided for your benefit but should not be used as a substitute for your own investigation of the system requirements that may be appropriate for your use of the COMSOL ®software or other software, given your particular circumstances. Systems and hardware change regularly, which may impact any determination of which system requirements are appropriate for you.
