Is it possible to use some sort of logic-based formula in COMSOL?

I am building a simulation for deep penetration laser welding. However, I cannot use phase-change tools as it is not available on my student license. Keyholing (the process by which a laser penetrates significantly deeper into a material than expected) occurs when the metal at the center of a beam vaporizes and allows the beam to penetrate deeper into the sheet of metal. To circumvent this, my goal is to have the heat source to become active at the maximum z-height such that the temperature at this point is less than the boiling point of the material.
Is it possible to use a logical formula along the lines of Max(z|T(z)
