Do you mean: (1) the effective area of flux that it "encloses" (so to speak) from the perspective of aself-inductancecalculation, (2) the surface area of the wire itself (=) wherer=the wire radius andl=the total length of wire, or (3) something else?

Do you mean: (1) the effective area of flux that it "encloses" (so to speak) from the perspective of a *self-inductance* calculation, (2) the surface area of the wire itself (= 2*pi*r*l) where *r*=the wire radius and *l*=the total length of wire, or (3) something else?
